MY TRIP TO INTERNATIONAL CONFEX: an event where industry professionals meet

On Tuesday 25th & Wednesday 26th February 2020, I visited ExCel, London for the annual International Confex event. Attending gave me a huge confidence boost since launching my event services business 5 weeks ago, and from now on, I refuse to let any negative energy get me down!

I met, networked and had plenty of G&T’s with suppliers, industry peers and potential clients. I’m looking forward to the next few months working alongside some amazing fellow #eventprofs!

Why I attended…

Confex attracts hundreds of event professionals and this year was no exception. The move to ExCel from Olympia allowed for exhibitors to get more creative with larger stand spaces and the visitor numbers definitely felt higher. While my main focus was on connecting with new and existing clients, it also provided me the opportunity to learn more about industry trends, how to improve my marketing and the importance of wellness and mental health within events.

As is common among most industries, a key theme this year was around live events and the use of technology. At Engage Exhibitions, we discussed how to capture more leads at trade shows via tech gadgets, read it here if you missed it. The wealth of technology and experiential ideas on show was great to see and reinforced the importance to think carefully about consumer journeys and brand engagement.

My show highlights…

It’s hard to pick just 1 seminar where I took away key learnings or a certain influential person who I met at the show, so I narrowed it down to 3!
1. Mitch Platt (General Manager at GrowthTribe) who discussed Growth Marketing
2. Soraya Gadelrab (Portfolio Director at Montgomery Group) who launched Women in Exhibitions Network
3. Juliet Tripp (International Events Manager & Speaker – fellow Female Hospitality Network boss babe) who discussed wellbeing within events

Seminar on ‘Content Marketing’ by Andy Steed

Where I stayed…

I discussed in a recent blog post the importance of remote working and the facilities I look for when selecting a roam working venue. Alongside the advantage of being a Marriott Rewards Member, I picked the Aloft London for 3 other reasons;
1. Conveniently located – it’s approx. 100m walk straight into the venue
2. Super speedy wifi – always handy!
3. A bar I could take clients to network until midnight

Aloft London ExCel – room with a view!

So, would I describe Confex 2020 a success? Absolutely.
Will you see me there again in 2021? Most definitely.
